These 'Historic Images' watermarks are difficult to remove. Do a reverse search, is it elsewhere online? PascalHD (talk) 01:30, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It would be great if the watermark could be removed; any other improvements that experts see as sensible would also be welcome! The local image for the subject currently in use on enwiki is unfortunately copyrighted in the US due to the URAA and will have to be removed, so this is the only one we have. ✓ Done. Two versions created: one with only watermark removed (possibly overwrite-ready, currently in history) and a heavily corrected one. Choose your poison - Gabuxae (talk) 15:10, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for taking on the "stale" task, and for doing such a good job - it is highly appreciated. I am not sure what the convention is for overwriting watermarked files, so feel free to do as you deem fit. I replaced the crop on the English Wikipedia article with one from your restored version. Felix QW (talk) 10:01, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure either. It may count as historical (even though I'm not doing digital restoration in first part). Either way, I'm technically denied the ability to overwrite, while you are autopatrolled. As for English Wikipedia article, I feel the benefit of change is questionable. Maybe a white background would help? - Gabuxae (talk) 19:08, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The scratches seemed needlessly distracting to me, so I definitely think your restoration is an improvement for the English Wikipedia article. However, I suppose that is for the editors there to decide. The only reason I was concerned with this in the first place is that I nominated the image that was originally there for deletion as a copyright violation and felt duty-bound to search out the best possible alternative. Watermark removal on File:Llazar Fundo ID.jpg

[edit]

Article(s): en:Llazar Fundo and its versions on other language Wikipedias

Request

Watermark removal would be very much appreciated. This bears the only image of the subject I could find that is unaffected by URAA restoration. If it were possible to have a cropped version of the right-hand image without the top-right corner of the archive stamp, that would be even better! Felix QW (talk) 10:15, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've done my best on GIMP at File:Llazar Fundo ID (cropped and dewatermarked).jpeg, but I failed to properly remove the watermark on anything but the portrait photo or remove the stamp. I suppose the crop is serviceable for now though. Felix QW (talk) 07:40, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Perspective correction

I’d like to request for perspective correction. --Htanaungg (talk) 15:06, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)
Uploaded my best attempt, but good results can only be achieved for some specific part, global image will be distorted heavily - Gabuxae (talk) 18:58, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Htanaungg: Can you clarify what do you mean? Do you feel like my upload is closer to what you wanted, or is it completely different? - Gabuxae (talk) 19:12, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gabuxae: With perspective correction he just meant straightening out the distortion created by the camera lens. The lens distortion causes the building to lean in at the edges - it leans to the right on the left side of the photo and to the left on the right side. For a pretty mild example of what I mean see the changes made at File:Miradouro da Serra da Castanheira - Portugal (16402605263).jpg ReneeWrites (talk) 19:52, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find any places on this image where lens distortion is noticeable. Every straight line is straight, unlike the original version of file you linked. - Gabuxae (talk) 19:12, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if my wording wasn't clear enough. I meant that the verticals aren't quite vertical, not that the straight lines aren't straight. I was just hoping to give you some advice to help get this person through QI. You can find the guidelines here: COM:IG, the bottom section deals with perspective correction. ReneeWrites (talk) 21:29, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Uploaded a new version with only vertical lines made vertical - Gabuxae (talk) 19:30, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request
Can crop this image to more focus on red car and cut other white and grey background? Thanks for all hard work. --109.114.75.137 08:46, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)
I don't think it needs a crop. Removing ground and wall will result in unusual aspect ratio - Gabuxae (talk) 10:59, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No because the photo is too tall and large to use on Wikipedia pages, there are parts that are not needed. This image must only depict the car and that's it, what are those white and gray parts for? I added another photo of a car to be cut the same, you can see a person's head. [1] It has already been done in the past. the request is for a matter of utility and pragmatic and to improve Wikipedia's view on small schemes such as those of mobile/phone device. It is anachronistic to have such large images that are not used to depict panoramas but only specific objects. 109.114.54.165 11:13, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
